The annual “spring pond skim” at Seven Springs Mountain Resort near Champion drew a crowd of skiers and snowboarders Saturday who dared to go downhill and then jump — or try to jump — over a small pond at the bottom of the slope.
With temperatures below freezing, those who didn’t make it across the pond were in for a frigid dip.
About 130 people joined in the fun, some dressed in what the resort called “tastefully-designed family-friendly costumes,” some in ’80s-style fashion and another pretending to be a pineapple.
One of those who didn’t make the hop across the pond was dressed in an Easter bunny costume.
A group of judges rated the skiers and snowboarders for awards for the best skim, best costume — and best splash.
