Seward man gets probation to resolve case involving sex with then-14-year-old girl

A Seward man was ordered to serve two years on probation after for an indecent assault against a teenage girl.

Westmoreland County prosecutors dropped four felony counts against Timmy Carl Betts, 38, including statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse after the now 20-year-old accuser testified during a hearing Tuesday that she no longer wanted the case against him to proceed.

Betts pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count in connection to having improper sexual contact with the teen.

Betts’ trial was scheduled to begin next week.

According to court records, police said Betts had sex with the then-14-year-old girl in 2018 in Seward. His accuser contended she visited the home to babysit a child in the residence, police said.

Betts confessed to having sex with the teen, according to court records.

Betts was charged in late August 2021 and served several days in jail before he was released on $20,000 bail.
