A Sewickley man will remain in jail as he awaits trial on charges that he assaulted three people, including one who police said was hit in the face with a shovel.

Jason Lee Bingaman, 50, has been in jail on $50,000 bond since his arrest in January. He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, child endangerment, reckless endangerment and making terroristic threats in connection with an incident at an Evans Street home near Herminie.

Westmoreland County Judge Christopher Feliciani on Wednesday rejected Bingaman’s request to be released on a nominal or recognizance bond.

“I don’t believe there is a condition or combination of conditions to protect the community at this time,” Feliciani said.

Police contend Bingaman attacked a woman after she destroyed his methamphetamine drug supply while he slept throughout that afternoon.

Police said Bingaman attempted to slash the woman’s face with scissors and fired a crossbow at her as she attempted to escort two others out of the house. According to court records, Bingaman also threw household items and threatened to kill one of them. Another person was hit in the face with a shovel before an unnamed adult man wrestled it away and subdued Bingaman. She was hospitalized for her injuries, police said.

Assistant Public Defender Jennifer DeFlitch said she expected to challenge the case on Bingaman’s behalf and that a formal request seeking to have the criminal charges dismissed will be filed in the coming weeks.
