Students at Norwin’s Sheridan Terrace Elementary School in North Huntingdon will be back in their own school Tuesday after being bused to the high school Monday morning because of a sewage problem on the first day of school.
Superintendent Jeff Taylor told the Norwin School Board Monday evening that a contractor was able to unclog the sewage line underneath the building that had caused the sewage backup into the building.
The sewage overflow was contained to bathroom and a hallway and was cleaned up Monday and the area sanitized, Taylor said.
The students were bused from Sheridan Terrace on Morris Avenue to Norwin High School for their safety and well-being, Taylor said. The school’s afternoon kindergarten classes were canceled. The students were moved “before it became a significant problem,” Taylor said.
The relocation went smoothly and school officials “moved swiftly to implement the established school safety and security plan,” Taylor said.
“Additionally, it allowed us to quickly bring in professionals to evaluate and remedy the sewage backup issue at Sheridan Terrace Elementary School.”
