A South Huntingdon man was killed in a crash in the township late Saturday, according to state police.

Brandon G. Detman, 40, was driving a Ford Fusion on Sherbondy Road at 10:45 p.m. when troopers said he left the road around a bend and slammed into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene not far from Motordrome Road.

Investigators from the coroner’s office said that speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Detman died from blunt force injuries. McCauley Funeral Home in West Newton will be handling arrangements.

It was the second fatal crash investigated Saturday by state police in Westmoreland County.

Karen L. Botteicher, 61, of Derry Borough, was driving a GMC Envoy on Route 130 in Hempfield shortly before 12:30 a.m. when investigators said a Ford F-350 pickup truck crossed the center line and the two collided head-on. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
