State police in Greensburg will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers during the first half of July.
Troopers in the station’s patrol unit will set up a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Westmoreland County between July 1 and 17, according to a news release.
Authorities did not offer any other details about the location or specific date of the checkpoint.
A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling held that police have to announce checkpoints ahead of time to meet a minimal standard of consent — if drivers know there’s a checkpoint and still drive, they’re effectively acknowledging that they could run into the checkpoint and be stopped.
