Southwest Greensburg Borough manager and tax collector Corry Sheffler poses for a portrait in the borough’s office in Southwest Greensburg on Dec. 17, 2013.

Southwest Greensburg is looking for a new manager.

“My wife and friends were all retired, and it’s time for me to join the fun,” said Corry Sheffler, 64, who has been the borough manager since 2011.

He’ll be stepping down at the end of February.

Sheffler wears a lot of hats at the borough, which has about 2,000 residents. His successor will have to do the same, he said. In addition to managerial duties, the borough manager must serve as both the secretary and treasurer.

“You’ll be working on a variety of things each day, and somebody needs to do more than enter the data into an accounting system, they have to know why they’re doing it,” Sheffler said.

He said his accounting background helped him in the job, and while it’s not a requirement for applicants it might prove helpful, he said.

The borough last month announced it had hired Tammy Jo Bailey as Sheffler’s replacement. However, Bailey stared training in early January and quickly decided the position “wasn’t a good fit,” Sheffler said. This sent the borough back to the drawing board.

Applications will be accepted through Jan. 31. Full details are available online at swgreensburg.org.

Borough residents will still see Sheffler around. He’s hanging up most of his hats but keeping one, staying on as as the borough tax collector.
