Southwest Borough police are continuing to investigate a stabbing late Saturday that resulted in a man being airlifted to an undisclosed Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.
Chief Christopher J. Kent said the injured man was walking in an alley between the 600 block of South Main and Sidney streets about 10 p.m., where the stabbing occurred inside a sport utility vehicle.
“The man was under the influence and got into a parked Jeep that he thought was his and fell asleep. He lives in the vicinity,” Kent said.
When the woman who owns the SUV came out to leave with her boyfriend, she attempted to rouse the suspect “who grabbed the woman, and her boyfriend stabbed the man to protect her,” Kent said.
“It is an ongoing investigation at this point,” Kent said.
Names of the parties were not released because it’s an ongoing investigation. The man who was stabbed is expected to survive.
“I would like the public to know that this was not connected to any business in that area, with a robbery or attempted theft. It is safe to walk in the area,” Kent said.
