Remaining spots are limited for the 10th annual Loyalhanna Sojourn, a paddling trip down the Loyalhanna Creek from Latrobe to New Alexandria.
The Saturday, May 18 excursion will cover 9 miles, beginning with 8 a.m. registration at Latrobe’s Cardinal Park. It’s geared for people of all ages and experience levels who are interested in water recreation.
Participants can leave their boats at the Latrobe park and drive their vehicles to the sojourn’s end point at New Alexandria’s Gray Wing Park. A shuttle bus will take them back to the starting launch over three runs at 9, 10 and 11 a.m.
Depending on water levels in the Loyalhanna, the paddle usually takes about three hours.
Among the landmarks along the way is a stone pier remaining from the vanished Carr Road Bridge, which once carried an electric railway and, later, cars across the creek.
More than 2,000 people have experienced the sojourn over the past nine years. The event is organized by the Loyalhanna Watershed Association, Greater Latrobe Parks & Recreation and Keystone State Park.
Participation is limited to 200 people, with 175 signed up as of April 30.

The $25 fee includes a commemorative T-shirt, event insurance, refreshments and the shuttle transportation.
