The annual St. Emma Monastery Christmas Shoppe in Hempfield is underway, offering visitors a unique shopping opportunity the holiday season approaches. Organized by the Benedictine Nuns who reside at the monastery, this major fundraiser features thousands of donated new and gently used items, including collectibles, housewares, home décor and the sisters’ own handmade beeswax candles. Shoppers are drawn not only by the extensive selection of treasures, but also by the homemade food available for eat-in or takeout, such as specialty breads, pierogies and cookies. Proceeds from the popular three-day sale support the essential operations and ministries of the monastery and its retreat center. The sale at 1001 Harvey Ave. continues Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., with 50% off most items.
