St. Emma Monastery in Hempfield.

Greensburg Catholic Schoolhouse and St. Emma Monastery on Friday will host the first Lantern Saint Tour.

The lantern-lit walking tour around the grounds of the monastery, located at 1001 Harvey St. in Hempfield, will feature live saint portrayals in honor of the feasts of All Saints and All Souls. All Saints Day is Nov. 1, followed by All Souls Day on Nov. 2.

The event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Treats, special appearances and more are planned.

Tours will leave every 15 minutes from the main parking lot and will follow paved walking around the grounds and cemetery. People are encouraged to bring flashlights for additional lighting.

Cost is $10 person. Students are $5. Children under 12 are free. Proceeds benefit the monastery.

The sisters of St. Emma Monastery came to the U.S. in 1931 from Germany, arriving at Saint Vincent Archabbey.

By 1943, they purchased their current home as well as 10 acres from the John Robertshaw family. Later, they bought the adjacent 100-acre farm.
