A Unity man told a Westmoreland County judge on Monday he wants to serve as his own lawyer during his upcoming trial on stalking and burglary charges.

Terry Marincic Jr., 50, is facing trial in three separate cases in which he was accused last year of making as many as 80 harassing telephone calls from jail to a woman who received a protection from abuse order against him, breaking into her Youngstown home, and trespassing as he hid under a crawl space of a neighbor’s home to spy on her.

Marincic’s trial was scheduled to begin Monday morning.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Tim Krieger granted Marincic a two-month delay after he said he no longer wanted to be defended by Assistant Public Defender John Sweeney.

“I want to represent myself so I have a chance to speak,” Marincic said.

Marincic has been in jail serving a contempt of court violation that stemmed from a court finding last April that he violated terms of protection from abuse orders.

Krieger said another lawyer will be appointed to serve as a standby counsel to advise Marincic during his trial that is now scheduled for June.
