State police are investigating the theft last month of a large amount of lumber from a Mt. Pleasant Township location.

More than $6,600 worth of lumber was reported missing, according to troopers. The theft may have occurred between Sept. 18 and 25, police said.

Reported missing were 76 pieces of treated 2-by-12 lumber valued at $3,040 and 122 pieces of the same size untreated lumber valued at $3,660, police said. Troopers did not say if the lumber was reported missing from a business or private location.

Investigators believe that a large truck and/or trailer would have been needed to load and remove the wood. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 724-832-3288.

A lumber shortage has been reported around the country. Lumber producers curtailed operations earlier this year as a result of restrictions meant to slow the coronavirus pandemic coupled with a spike in do-it-yourself projects led to the shortage, according to a Newsweek article. As a result, prices have increased, according to the Tribune-Democrat.
