State police in Greensburg are seeking information on a multi-vehicle crash Monday along Route 30 in Hempfield that claimed the life of a Fayette County man.

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s office reported the driver of one of the vehicles, Michael J. Yatsko, 69, of South Connellsville, died at Excela Health Westmoreland hospital in Greensburg, where he was treated after the 1:46 p.m. crash.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 30 and North Greengate Road. Yatsko had to be extricated from his vehicle.

One other person, who was not identified, was seriously injured and taken by Mutual Aid Ambulance to an undisclosed hospital, according to ambulance personnel.

The crash closed the westbound lanes of the highway for more than an hour while the accident was investigated.

Trooper Steve Limani said that troopers are “trying to piece together” how the crash occurred. Anyone who may have witnessed it is asked to call state police at 724-832-3288.

The coroner’s office said the cause and manner of Yatsko’s death is pending an autopsy and toxicology reports.

The Richard Kucera Funeral Home in Connellsville is in charge of arrangements, the coroner’s office said.
