The Westmoreland Museum of American Art extends closure into early February
Citing “an abundance of caution and with the health and safety of staff and visitors as the top priority,” The Westmoreland Museum of American Art is extending its temporary closure.
The Greensburg museum is now scheduled to reopen to the public on Feb. 7, with resumption of operating hours from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays.
On Feb. 6, the museum will host a members’ preview day for the new featured exhibition, “Pattern Makers.” Running through May 9, the exhibition will include select works from The Westmoreland’s collection made with stripes, spots and other repetitive motifs.
“Pattern Makers” is curated by students from the University of Pittsburgh Department of History of Art and Architecture.
Upon reopening, advance registration will be required for admission, which is free.
In the meantime, the Museum will continue to present virtual public programming, including art classes for children and adults, artist talks and a film series program.
The Kinselland Radio event with Artist-in-Residency program artists Anqwenique and DS Kinsel is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Jan. 12.
The online listening session will feature deep cuts of classical, jazz, hip hop, rhythm and blues, rock and retro pop records from the Kinsel family’s inherited personal collection. The live vinyl DJ set is inspired by the “African American Art in the 20th Century” exhibition and celebrates the rich legacy and contributions of Black artists.
Additionally, the Museum’s outdoor Winter Lights display will remain open for the public to view from dusk to 10 p.m. nightly. The Museum Shop also is available online by clicking the “Shop” button at the bottom of every page on the website.
