Social media threats in two area school districts were investigated this week and Greater Latrobe authorities connected a threat there to an arrest in Florida.

Jeannette students switched to virtual learning Thursday out of “extreme caution,” Superintendent Matt Jones said in a letter sent to parents Wednesday.

In it, he said school officials were notified that a possible threat was made against the high school on a social media site. Jones said in the letter that the threat appeared to be similar to others in the area recently.

School was set to return to in-person learning Friday, he said.

At Greater Latrobe, officials said a threat was reported against the Junior High School. Police found the incident originated in Jupiter, Fla., according to district officials.

A notice about the situation on the district’s website links to a television news report from Florida that indicated an arrest was made in an unsubstantiated shooting threat at Jupiter High School.
