Westmoreland County voters for the third time in the last 12 years will choose between Democrat Tom Murphy and Republican Frank Schiefer to run the office that oversees all local property records.

Schiefer, 38, of Hempfield, finished first among three Republican candidates for the right to challenge Murphy, the incumbent county Recorder of Deeds.

According to unofficial final results, Schiefer received 43.9% of the vote, ahead of Republican opponents Brian Rasel (28.2%) and Jon Wian (27.6%).

Murphy was unopposed on the Democratic ballot.

Their wins set up another rematch between Murphy and Schiefer.

In 2011, Schiefer defeated Murphy, a then three-term incumbent. Four years later, Murphy ousted Schiefer to reclaim the office.
