Traffic signal upgrade to trigger restrictions on Route 51 in Rostraver

Motorists can expect to encounter traffic restrictions beginning Monday on a section of Route 51 in Rostraver as crews work on a signal upgrade.

PennDOT officials said single-lane restrictions will be in place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Nov. 21 between Concord Lane and Ridge Road while crews from Power Contracting and Vantage work on traffic signal upgrades and install new overhead signs at the intersection that provides access to the C. Harper auto dealership.

There also will be 15-minute rolling closures on that section of the highway between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday through Nov. 21.

Rostraver police will assist with traffic control.

The work is part of a $120.6 million project that is reconfiguring the interchange of Route 51 and Interstate 70 in a diverging diamond format and upgrading an adjacent section of the interstate.

In the diverging diamond format, the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 51 cross over and swap positions at each end of the bridge over I-70. That allows motorists who are turning left from Route 51 onto I-70 to do so without having to complete the move in front of oncoming traffic.
