The Westmoreland County Coroner’s office has released the identity of a man killed early Saturday in a motorcycle crash on Mt. Pleasant Road in Hempfield Township.

The coroner’s office said Tanner B. Van Woundenberg, 19, of Trafford was headed north on Mt. Pleasant Road on a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle when, for an unknown reason, he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The motorcycle crossed the east shoulder, striking a fence and coming to rest in a driveway.

Van Woundenberg, who graduated from Penn-Trafford High School in the spring, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner John A. Ackerman. The coroner’s office noted Van Woundenberg was not wearing a helmet.

State police from the Greensburg station assisted in the investigation.

The Shirley Funeral Home in North Huntington is in charge of arrangements.
