Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump speaks Aug. 29 in La Crosse, Wis.

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to return to Southwestern Pennsylvania this month to speak at an event in Westmoreland County.

On Saturday, the Trump campaign announced Trump will address The Projecting America Initiative, a nonprofit group led by former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grennel. The group says it safeguards state and federal government on what it says is the growing threat of the Communist Chinese Party’s attempt to control the American economy.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 23 at a location in the Smithton area that has yet to be identified.

Westmoreland County Republican Committee Chairman Bill Bretz said he believes the event will be held at an undetermined farm.

Trump is expected to appear along with former U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin and “Pennsylvanians concerned by China’s threat against U.S. agriculture.”

Trump last appeared in Westmoreland County, at the county fairgrounds, in 2022 prior to the Republican U.S. Senate primary in support Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Pennsylvania has been a focus for the the candidates ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Trump held a rally in July at the Butler County fairgrounds, where he survived an assassination attempt and held a campaign event in Johnstown in late August.

Trump has said he plans to return to Butler in October.

Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, launched their campaign at a rally in Philadelphia, and both have made several appearances in the Pittsburgh region during the past month. Harris has been in Pittsburgh since Thursday as she prepares for next week’s debate with Trump in Philadelphia.
