Former President Donald Trump is slated to return to Westmoreland County on May 6 for a rally where he is expected to share the spotlight with Republican senatorial candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Earlier in April, Trump endorsed Oz in the latter’s bid to represent Pennsylvania in the Senate.

Trump has scheduled a Save America rally May 6 at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds. According to an online posting, the event is set to begin at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the rally are available at donaldjtrump.com/events on a first come, first served basis.

Oz tweeted about Trump’s rally on Monday, noting, “I’m looking forward to joining the stage with him.”

During his campaign, Oz, a celebrity heart surgeon best known as the host of “The Dr. Oz Show” on television, has described himself as a “conservative outsider,” while critics have labeled him a “Hollywood liberal.”

In his endorsement statement, Trump, who had his own run on national television as host of “The Apprentice” reality show before entering the White House, noted Oz has “lived with us through the screen and has always been popular, respected and smart.”

Trump visited Westmoreland in September 2020, appearing at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity during his unsuccessful campaign for re-election.

Oz hosted a local meet-and-greet event in January, at Giannilli’s II restaurant in Unity.

The crowded field of GOP Senate hopefuls also includes: David McCormick, who has held undersecretary positions at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Treasury; political commentator Kathy Barnette; Jeff Bartos, a failed candidate for Pennsylvania lieutenant governor in 2018; attorneys George Bochetto and Sean Gale; and Carla Sands, former ambassador to Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
