A Greensburg man was charged with causing catastrophe after police said he let the water in his bathtub run “for an extended period of time,” flooding his apartment and damaging three other units, according to court papers.

Firefighters were called to Pershing Square on West Third Street at 7 a.m. Wednesday because of multiple complaints of flooding. Police said firefighters determined the apartment where David S. Holtzer lived was the source of the water.

Holtzer, 60, was intoxicated and uncooperative while firefighters removed a few inches of water from his apartment, according to court papers. A space heater was running in a bedroom in a puddle of water.

“Holtzer was unbothered by the damage to his apartment or the affect [sic] on his neighbors,” police said.

Three neighboring apartments were flooded, including one where the resident’s belongings were damaged, according to court papers. Holtzer was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. He had not been arraigned and did not have an attorney listed in online court records.

Holtzer was not available for comment on Monday at the apartment complex.
