A Unity man was arrested for DUI, resisting arrest and driving on a suspended license after, police said, he led a trooper on a 3-mile pursuit from Youngstown into Latrobe and then ran on foot after crashing his car into a snow bank.

Glenn D. Jones, 23, of Hostetter was taken into custody after he was tased by a state trooper after a 100-yard pursuit in the vicinity of Sylvan Avenue and Wood Street, where Jones had crashed his 2002 red BMW just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Trooper Brandon Clark said the pursuit started at the intersection of Main Street and Route 982 in Youngstown when he noticed a front headlamp and both tail lights of Jones’ car were not operating and he attempted a traffic stop.

Clark alleges in court documents that Jones refused to pull over as he drove north on Route 982 through Unity and into Latrobe.

Clark reported he clocked Jones driving more than 80 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

Clark said in court documents that Jones passed nine vehicles often by swerving into the opposite lane, went through a steady red traffic signal at the Ligonier Street intersection in Latrobe and nearly missed striking a man who was riding a bicycle in the northbound lanes of Route 982.

Jones allegedly turned off Route 982 on to Wood Street, entered Josephine Street and then reentered Wood Street, where he entered a gravel driveway, lost control and collided into a snow bank, according to Clark.

Jones then ran from the car through multiple residential yards with Clark still in pursuit.

“Multiple commands were given for the male to stop with negative results,” Clark wrote in court papers.

Clark reported that Jones failed multiple field sobriety tests. Jones submitted to a forensic blood test at Excela Health Hospital in Latrobe, police said.

Jones also is charged with nine counts of reckless endangerment and several traffic and equipment violation citations.

Jones was released from the county jail Monday on $5,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 31.
