Santa and helpers Lisa Pope of Latrobe and Darlene Upson of Unity wave to carloads of parents and kids passing by during the township’s drive-thru holiday event in 2020.

Unity’s annual holiday luncheon for seniors and Santa Claus drive-thru for children are set to be held on the same day this year — Dec. 1.

The township’s senior holiday luncheon is for those age 55 and older, and it’s been a tradition for more than 18 years, according to township supervisors Chairman Mike O’Barto.

This year’s event will begin at noon at Giannilli’s II Restaurant and Lounge on Route 30.

“It’s a great time,” O’Barto said.

There are 200 tickets available for the luncheon at $10 per person, and they will be available for purchase Oct. 30 at the municipal building on Beatty County Road.

Later in the day at 5:30 p.m, Santa Claus will visit the municipal building.

The holiday drive-thru event features treats for the first 300 children age 12 and younger.

According to O’Barto, the event began during the covid pandemic. The township decided to keep offering it because of the positive feedback.

“Parents love it,” O’Barto said. “All they have to do is sit in the car.”
