Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, which is good news for some — but bad news for the procrastinators among us. Did you forget to make a reservation or buy a gift? Don’t worry. You can take your valentine to one of these events instead.
‘Rhapsody in Blue’
Few things are as romantic as an evening at the symphony. This weekend, the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra will deliver some American classics for their audiences at The Palace Theatre.
The program will include Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo,” George Gershwin’s incredible “Rhapsody in Blue” and Randall Thompson’s “Symphony No. 2.” They will feature pianist Janice Carissa for Gershwin’s masterpiece.
The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. Tickets start at $23.18. To learn more, visit westmoreland symphony.org.
Free movie: ‘Frozen’
Now that Western Pennsylvania has finally started to defrost, it can be fun to watch Disney’s “Frozen” again. This modern classic follows the adventures of sisters Elsa and Anna as they learn to deal with magic, secrets and sisterhood.
There will be two showings of the movie, one specifically devoted to singing along to the film’s many classic songs including “Let It Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” There will also be handmade wands, programs and concessions available for purchase.
The sing-along screening will be held at 11 a.m., and a second viewing will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg. No reservations are required. Learn more at westmorelandculturaltrust.org.
Valentine’s Day music bingo
Try something new with your sweetie on Valentine’s Day, and maybe even win them some delicious Sarris chocolate at music bingo. This Saturday, the innovative game will be held at Club Pure Imagination in Irwin.
The concept is simple: you get a bingo card, but instead of numbers, all the spaces will be filled by the names of songs. The DJ will play a song, and if you recognize it and have it on your card, you can mark it off. If you get a bingo, you win a prize. It’s simple and so much fun.
The event will be held 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., at Club Pure Imagination, 419 Main St., Second Floor Rear, Irwin. Tickets are $5. To get yours, visit pureimaginationirwin.com.

This month’s hike will take place at Pleasant Valley Park, and it will be 2 to 3 miles with some possible up-and-down. Delicious hot chocolate will be provided to keep you toasty on your journey. Make sure to bundle up for the weather.
The hike will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Valley Park, 2557 Pleasant Valley Road, Murrysville. To learn more and register, visit murrysville.com.
You Are Here’s annual ‘Oh, Scrap!’ drop-off
We all have at least one box of stuff lurking in a corner or a basement that we need to get rid of and that we’re just too lazy to deal with. This weekend, You Are Here in Jeannette will gladly take it off your hands.
If you have unused arts and crafts supplies — including needlework supplies, scraps of materials, yarn, jewelry making supplies and more — donate them to You Are Here. They’ll resell them at a highly reduced cost and use the funds to support their art programs. It’s a win-win-win situation.
Drop-off will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as well as Sunday by appointment, at You Are Here Jeannette, 406 Clay Ave. Learn more about what’s accepted at yah406clay.org.
