An entry from Yough students in PennDOT District 12’s Paint the Plow contest.

Voting opened Monday for the best student-created design on PennDOT snowplow blades this winter.

Eight finalists from high schools in the department’s four-county District 12 area are vying for votes in the Paint the Plow contest. The theme this year is “Don’t Rush in Ice and Slush.”

Students from the following schools have entries in the contest: Beth Center, Canon-McMillan, Connellsville Area Career & Technical School, Jeannette City, Laurel Highlands, Trinity, West Greene and Yough. The design that gets the most votes by Sunday night will be the fan favorite, according to PennDOT.

The entries will be up for a judge’s pick which will be selected by agency employees.

Voting is open online at surveymonkey.com/r/D12PlowTest.

The program started during the 2015-16 winter season in Cambria County and has since spread across the state. Schools in Westmoreland County participated in the contest in 2017 and 2018. Yough is the reigning champion, winning last year’s fan favorite contest and tying with Greater Latrobe for the judge’s pick.
