Tucker Knupp, 18, of Latrobe, receives his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine Tuesday at the Westmoreland County Courthouse.

As many as 600 coronavirus vaccines were administered Tuesday at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Greensburg.

The clinic, open to county employees, their families and the general public, was held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Hayden’s Pharmacy in Youngwood oversaw the operation.

Hayden’s owner Ed Christofano said about 200 appointments for the first of two Pfizer doses were set up before the clinic opened at 10 a.m. Walk-ins were accepted.

“We wanted to make the vaccines accessible to Westmoreland County and felt a day at the courthouse would be a good venue,” Christofano said.

While some county employees took advantage of the clinic, Christofano said members of the public also participated, including 18-year-old Tucker Knupp of Latrobe.

Knupp, whose mother works at the courthouse as an assistant district attorney, is a senior at Greater Latrobe Area High School and will enroll at Lehigh University in the fall to play football.

“I found out I had to do it for college,” Knupp said as to why he decided to receive the shot.

Christofano said he was pleased with Tuesday’s turnout and said he hasn’t seen much vaccine hesitancy in the community.

“If anything we’re seeing an uptick with people receiving the vaccination since the state opened it up to all the categories,” Christofano said.

Hayden’s will return to the courthouse in three weeks to administer second doses of the vaccine.
