A waterline broke in West Newton Monday night, disrupting service to some customers in the borough.

The waterline break was reported at 7:10 p.m. on Vine Street, according to a Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety supervisor.

Jeff Grasmeder, who lives near the waterline break on Vine Street, said late Monday night that there still was water leaking from underneath the road and into the storm sewer drains.

The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County shut off the water to residents in the area and the street was closed, Grasmeder said. The water coming up to the surface from a hole in the street had stopped, Grasmeder said.

Additional details about the waterline break was not available late Monday night.
