Watershed group plans Yough rafting trip

The Mountain Watershed Association in Melcroft is sponsoring a beginner-friendly rafting trip from Dawson to Layton along the Youghiogheny River in Fayette County on July 28.

The rafting trip begins at 9 a.m. and will cover eight miles on the river

The cost is $18 for children age seven and younger and $50 for those older than seven.

The fee covers the cost of renting a life jacket and using a canoe or kayak from Hazelbaker’s Canoe Rentals in Layton, a shuttle upstream to Dawson, a bagged lunch and tip for Hazelbaker’s staff. An ice cream sandwich at the end of the trip is included in the price.

Proceeds will benefit the Mountain Watershed Association’s efforts to maintain the Indian Creek Valley Trail in Fayette County and other projects.

Registration closes on July 18.
