Westmoreland County Community College will receive about $3.25 million in state aid to update the college’s overall administrative computer system.

The money will be used to update the school’s software that is used by human resources, accounting, student affairs and foundation departments, said college President Tuesday Stanley.

“We’ll improve how we do business,” Stanley said this week.

The college based in Hempfield is reviewing proposals it had received for installing the new software and has narrowed the competition to two companies, Stanley said. The president said she would like to be able to make a recommendation to theboard of trustees in December or January.

Stanley anticipates it will take two years to complete the installation.

The Department of Education will provide 50% of the annual capital expense of the project, with the remaining funds financed by local sponsorship.

WCCC intends to issue $6.5 million in bonds to cover the estimated cost. The state will provide $3.2 million, which will help pay the debt, Stanley said.
