It’s supposed to be the dead of winter, but the Pittsburgh region could be on pace to break a record high temperature this weekend.
“We’ll be above average on Wednesday with highs forecast in the mid-40s, and this weekend we’ll be approaching some record highs,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Colton Milcarek. “There’s a northward surge of abnormally warm air. It’s not being caused by anything specific, just normal variability, but it will make things significantly warmer than usual.”
The record high for the Pittsburgh region on Jan. 9 is 69 degrees.
“I don’t think we’ll break that one,” Milcarek said. “But the record high for Jan. 10 is 60 degrees, and with our forecast already in the upper 50s, that one is maybe in jeopardy.”
