The Westmoreland County Clerk of Courts office is going modern.

The office, which oversees all criminal court filings, on Friday unveiled it’s own app.

In September, county commissioners approved a $15,000 contract with OVC LLC, a private firm that specializes in the creation of mobile apps for law enforcement, public safety, emergency management and public health agencies.

Clerk of Courts Bryan Kline said the app, which is specific to Westmoreland County, will enable the public to search criminal court documents and make court payments for restitution and fines on mobile devices.

“You really cannot increase public access in today’s society more so than by developing an app. Westmoreland County has a population of 348,000 residents, and more than 278,000 residents use a smart phone as a primary means of communication,” Kline said.

“We are going to use it to engage the community. You will have the clerk of courts office at your fingertips. Individuals will be able to make payments and search criminal records from the app, and be able to perform other functions from their smartphone without having to go to the clerk of courts office.”

The app is available for free download in the App Store and Google Play by searching “Westmoreland County Clerk.”
