The Westmoreland County commissioners on Thursday approved a $7,500 settlement payment related to a complaint about an injury at the county jail.
The board unanimously approved the payment as part of a settlement agreement with Christine Shellhammer, who reported being injured Sept. 15 while visiting an inmate at the jail.
The county received a notice of an intent to file a lawsuit earlier this year from a Pittsburgh attorney on Shellhammer’s behalf, according to county solicitor Melissa Guiddy.
Shellhammer reported that she tripped and fell over a door stop in the jail’s lobby, Guiddy said this week. County officials agreed to settle the matter before a lawsuit was filed.
