Westmoreland County commissioners are expected to approve a $7,500 payment to settle a complaint from a woman who said she was injured last year while visiting an inmate at the county jail.

Solicitor Melissa Guiddy said Tuesday the county received a notice of an intent to file a lawsuit earlier this year from a Pittsburgh attorney on behalf of a woman identified as Christine Shellhammer.

Shellhammer said she was injured Sept. 15 when she tripped and fell over a door stop in the jail’s waiting area, Guiddy said.

“We agreed to settle the case before a lawsuit was filed,” Guiddy said.

Commissioners are expected to approve the settlement at the July 11 business meeting.
