Club news

• A membership meeting is set for 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at Greensburg Garden Center, 951 Old Salem Road. Silent plant auction is planned. Food will be served with safety precautions in place. Masks requested.

• Greensburg Art Center members will vote in November for officers to serve 2-year terms beginning Jan. 1. Members can nominate themselves or other members by calling Donna Kantorik at 724-539-1299 before the Sept. 14 membership meeting. A slate of nominees will be presented at the October meeting.

Fundraisers

• Stewartsville Lions Club will host a takeout-only barbecue chicken dinner from 11 a.m. until sold out Aug. 30 at Holiday Travel International, 12239 Route 30, North Huntingdon. Cost is $8. Orders will be taken and food will be brought to diners’ cars.

Performance opportunities

• Performers ages 16-23 are being sought for an online highlights concert of a new musical called “Sticks & Stones” that will premiere in October during National Anti-Bullying Month, in partnership with Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.

Actors of all ethnicities, body types, gender identities and with disabilities are encouraged to send a video audition by midnight Friday. There is no audition fee. Featured actors will receive no remuneration.

Reunions

• Descendants of Elmer E. and Elizabeth Grimm Nicholson and Elmer E. and Mary Lucas Nicholson will meet at noon Aug. 22 in the upper pavilion of Indian Creek Valley Community Center, 628 Indian Creek Valley Road, Indian Head. Attendees should bring a covered dish and seating; table settings, meat and beverages provided. Alcohol is not allowed. Children’s activities, grab bag and 50/50 are planned. Bring a gift for an auction to cover cost of the facilities.

Masks are optional; anyone who is not feeling well is asked not to attend.

Special events

• History Happy Hour will be 5:30-7:30p.m. Friday at Fort Ligonier. Rain date is Saturday. The outside event includes pre-packaged light bites, spirits, music by Joe Golden and Pat Petrarca and a living history demonstration.

• A “Movies on the Lawn” double feature will begin at dusk Friday at the ball fields in Yukon. Featured movies will be “Coco,” followed by “Jurassic Park.” Attendees should bring chairs or blankets. Admission is $3, or $5 per family. Concession stand will be open.

• Music in the Streets begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in downtown Irwin. Performances include Aubrey Burchell, 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lamp Theatre courtyard; Gail, Kevin & Co., 6-9 p.m. on Fourth Street; Tom Book, 7-10 p.m. at Colonial Grill; and Judi Figel and Dave Crisci, 8-11 p.m. at Brandy’s on Main.

Many downtown restaurants will be open. Main Street will be open to vehicle traffic. Sponsor is Irwin Business and Professional Association.

• The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg will host a virtual community day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 6 on its Facebook and YouTube pages. Activities will include Yoga for Beginners and Yoga for Kids by Dub Yoga Plus, Children’s Book Story Time with Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, art activities, musical performances and more.
