Westmoreland County saw 27 new cases of covid-19 Sunday, but no additional deaths, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported.

That makes the seventh time in the past week that Westmoreland County saw double-digit increases in new coronavirus cases.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in the county to 801 since the new virus was first reported there on March 20. The death toll stands at 38.

According to the Department of Health, 19,216 people in Westmoreland County have tested negative for the virus.

The state reported 774 cases are confirmed, with 27 cases remaining probable.

The department reported 30 new cases Saturday, 33 new cases Friday, 36 on Thursday, 29 cases Wednesday, six on Tuesday, 20 on Monday and 13 last Sunday.

Local officials continue to advise residents to use caution and exercise social distancing measures, following Gov. Tom Wolf’s order last week requiring masks in all public places and anywhere outdoors where social distancing is not possible.

All of Pennsylvania is now in the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s reopening plan.

Across the county line in Allegheny County, where new cases have been spiking in tripe digits in recent days, bars, restaurants and casinos have been ordered to close under a local order that allows for only take out service from such establishments.
