Westmoreland County has 2 new covid-19 deaths

Westmoreland County has two new coronavirus-related deaths Saturday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county also has 19 new covid-19 cases, two of which are probable with the rest confirmed.

Saturday’s numbers bring the death total to 54 and case total to 2,203.

In the county, there are nine covid-19 patients hospitalized, with one on a ventilator.

The new covid-19 deaths announced Saturday mark the first time since May 18 that multiple deaths were reported in Westmoreland County.

In all, there were four new coronavirus deaths and 157 cases reported this week in the county.

On Friday, Westmoreland Manor, the county-owned nursing home in Hempfield, had nine more employees test positive for coronavirus, bringing the total to 19 of a staff of more than 400. There have been 47 residents at the site who have contracted covid-19.
