Westmoreland County posts 2nd largest covid-19 case increase of August

Westmoreland County added 20 new coronavirus cases Thursday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The new covid-19 cases, 18 confirmed and two probable, represent the second largest case increase in August. The largest increase this month came Aug. 8, when 23 cases were reported.

As of Thursday, 96% of Westmoreland County’s coronavirus cases are confirmed.

With less than two weeks left in August, the county has had 269 coronavirus cases reported this month.

No new covid-19 deaths were reported in the county Thursday, and the death toll remains at 49. This month, there have been three reported deaths from coronavirus in the county, so far.

According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, in Westmoreland County there are currently six covid-19 patients hospitalized, with one of them requiring ventilation.
