Westmoreland officials said Tuesday that dozens of poll workers are needed to staff the county’s 307 voting precincts for the May 18 primary.

In all, the county needs 11 judges of elections and as many as 50 poll workers, Election Bureau Director JoAnn Sebastiani said.

Judges of elections are needed to oversee operations at precincts in Greensburg, Hempfield, Monessen, Mt. Pleasant, New Kensington, North Huntingdon, Sewickley, South Huntingdon and Youngwood.

Poll workers are needed at precincts in Allegheny Township, Derry, Hempfield, Jeannette, Monessen, North Huntingdon and South Huntingdon. Officials said additional poll workers also are needed throughout the county to bolster Election Day staff.

Judges of elections are paid $130 for the day and poll workers earn $95. The county will also pay for the judges and poll workers $15 to attend a training session Thursday at the courthouse.

Both judges and poll workers must be registered voters and be available to work throughout Election Day. Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. when voters will cast ballots to nominate candidates in state, local and school board races. Four referendums are also on the ballots this spring.

Applications can be submitted online through the county’s website.
