Westmoreland County reaches 50 covid-19 deaths after a month with no reported deaths

Westmoreland County has 18 new coronavirus cases Thursday, per the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Of the new cases, nine are confirmed and nine are probable.

One new covid-19 related death was also reported, which resulted in the county reaching 50 total deaths.

Prior to Thursday, there had not been a new coronavirus death reported in Westmoreland County since Aug. 19.

The county reached 25 deaths April 29, the same month in which its first death was reported on April 8.

There are three covid-19 patients currently hospitalized in the county, with one on a ventilator.

Westmoreland County surpassed 2,000 cases Wednesday. The county passed 1,000 cases on July 13. The county’s highest daily reported case count this month was 20, which it has reached two times thus far in September.
