Five more people in Westmoreland County died from covid-19, according to the latest information from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Since the pandemic struck in Western Pennsylvania in March, 565 people in Westmoreland County have died from coronavirus, according to state data released Saturday.
The county also had 140 newly reported cases of covid-19, the state said, bringing the total since the pandemic struck in March to 23,962. The seven-day average of cases (132) is the lowest it has been since Nov. 13.
According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there were 145 people hospitalized because of covid-19, with 11 in an intensive care unit and six on a ventilator.
In the county, there are 90 total adult ICU beds — 27 remain available — and 96 total ventilators with 25 in use by patients suffering any ailment.
Of the newly reported cases, 78 were confirmed. The state Department of Health defines a probable case as one in which a patient has “a positive serology (antibody) test and either covid-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.
