Westmoreland County reports 1st coronavirus death

Westmoreland County has reported its first coronavirus death, state health officials said Wednesday.

No information was given on the deceased.

The county recorded its first two positive covid-19 cases on March 19. The running case count now stands at 183, an increase of six cases from Tuesday to Wednesday.

The death is one of 70 reported across the state as of 12 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Department of Health. The statewide death toll is now 310.

The 1,680 new cases statewide brings the Pennsylvania total to 16,239.

Fayette and Washington counties both reported two new cases, bringing their respective running totals to 35 and 59. Fayette has seen one death from the virus.

Indiana and Somerset counties remained at 21 and seven, respectively.
