For the sixth time this month, Westmoreland County saw a new covid-19 case count in single digits, according to Monday’s report from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Posting nine new cases — all of which were confirmed, Westmoreland was among 33 counties in the state to add less than 10 cases.

So far in August, Westmoreland has added 331 new covid-19 cases — a 47% decline in new cases from the same period in July.

For a sixth-straight day, the county saw no new coronavirus-related deaths. There have been 49 people to have died of covid-related illness since the pandemic began in March.

According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there is currently only 1 resident of Westmoreland County hospitalized for the virus; that patient is on a ventilator.
