Westmoreland County is looking to hire.

The county has released a list of vacant positions it is seeking to fill, including a number of open jobs at Regional Youth Services Center for its juvenile detention center and shelter programs. New employees are being sought for one full-time and two part-time juvenile service workers, a part-time van driver and four temporary positions.

Examples of offered pay include:

• $12.50 per hour for a part-time park police officer

• $11.18 per hour for a temporary custodian

• $15.04 per hour for a sheriff’s department clerk trainee

• $18.31 per hour for a mechanic

• $35,565 salary for a court reporter

The county also is seeking to fill nurse openings at Westmoreland Manor and other courthouse positions, including a new director of Records Management.

Lucy Yakulis, who headed the records management position for the last 32 years, retired June 6. Yakulis was responsible for overseeing the storage, transfer and disposal of all county records and documents. She also served as the county’s open records officer.

Amanda Bernard, director of Human Resources at the courthouse, said county full-time positions come with a benefits package that includes health care, paid time off, long-term disability, life insurance and a pension plan. Applicants can find details about available jobs and how to apply on the county’s web page at co.westmoreland.pa.us.

Plans to create an online application process are in the works and could be in place by summer’s end, Bernard said.

“This should simplify the application process for potential candidates,” she said.
