Westmoreland County sees record jump in covid cases with 505
Westmoreland County on Thursday added 505 new cases of coronavirus to break its daily record by 68 cases. Of the new cases, 483 are confirmed out of 1,005 new tests.
The county has now had 12,369 cases of covid-19 with 9,918 of those confirmed and 1,307 recorded as probable, according to the state Department of Health.
Health officials define a probable case as one in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or covid symptoms with a “high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.
The new cases pushed the county’s seven-day average to 332 and seven-day total to 2,326. Both of those continue a series of record highs.
The county’s daily PCR positivity rate has climbed to 48.06% while the overall PCR positivity rate rose to 12.86%
There were eight new covid-related deaths reported, bumping the county’s total to 273 since March.
Westmoreland has 139 residents hospitalized for covid and 19 of those adults are in intensive care units and 10 are using ventilators. The county has 89 ventilators available with 19 in use for all illnesses.
