Westmoreland County surpasses 2,000 coronavirus cases

Westmoreland County on Wednesday surpassed 2,000 total coronavirus cases.

The county saw 10 new confirmed cases added, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, bringing the total to 2,003 since the first cases were recorded in the county in March.

The county’s death toll remained at 49, where it’s been since Aug. 19.

With the 10 new cases added from 129 tests, the county’s daily positivity rate sits at 7.75%. Overall, the county’s positivity rate is 4.76%. In all, 40,060 people in Westmoreland County have tested negative since March. The county’s seven-day average of new cases rose to 13.

Westmoreland County became the 15th county in the state to surpass 2,000 cases.

According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently four coronavirus patients hospitalized in the county. The county has 88 ventilators, with 15 in use, but only one by a covid-19 patient.
