A Westmoreland County woman was killed Sunday in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 79, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to I-79 near mile marker 150 after 2 p.m. Sunday for a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.

Christina Barnes, 55, of Bradenville was driving the motorcycle northbound. She was hit by a Hyundai Sonata as she attempted to enter the emergency turnaround in the median, the sheriff’s office said.

Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The Sonata went off the right side of the road and overturned. The driver was entrapped and had to be extracted. The driver was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital and was later released.

A third vehicle was struck by debris, but its driver and passenger were not injured.

Monongalia County sheriff’s deputies and accident reconstructionist were on scene, along with Westover Volunteer Fire Department and MON EMS.

The accident is under investigation.
