Westmoreland Courthouse phones off line Monday

Westmoreland County Courthouse experienced issues Monday with telephone lines.

Phone systems at the Westmoreland County Courthouse were off line Monday, from morning into the early afternoon.

Office staffers were able call out but, at times, but were unable to receive incoming calls, according to Commissioner Sean Kertes.

Emergency calls to the county’s 911 system were not affected.

Officials believe the outage was caused by a faulty computer router, which was being and repaired. A similar outage hit the courthouse several weeks ago and a reboot of the system corrected the issue.

Kertes said similar reboot attempts on Monday were not successful, and a new issue that involves computer coding is expected to have caused the latest outage.

The county’s computer technicians, along with representatives from the county’s private phone operator, will continue efforts to repair the system with hopes that it will be back on line by Tuesday morning. Kertes said.

“The phones will be intermittent until it is fixed,” Kertes said.

Repairs efforts will be halted at the start of business on Tuesday and experts hope that pause will enable to telephone system to be operational throughout the day, with any additional reboots to be conducted after hours.

“If people need to contact the courthouse they can email or keep trying to call,” Kertes said.
