Nearly $80,000 owed to about 250 crime victims is being held by Westmoreland County, according to Clerk of Courts Bryan Kline.

The cash represents court-ordered restitution payments to victims who moved and have not updated their home addresses with the county, he said.

Money can be held for a year, after which it is turned over to the Pennsylvania Treasury. The state’s unclaimed property program has more than $3.5 billion belong to people.

”I want to ensure that these victims get the justice that they deserve, and are made financially whole,” Kline said.

A list of those owned money, along with their last known addresses, can be found on the Clerk of Courts page of the county’s website, www.co.westmoreland.pa.us.

Amounts owned range between $25 and $2,500, Kline said.

So far this year, his office has collected more than $5.3 million in court costs, fines and restitution payments, Kline said.
