Westmoreland Cultural Trust bringing back summer TGIS concerts
The Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s popular TGIS summer concert series will return on June 18, at a new location to accommodate social distancing protocols.
Normally held in the courtyard of The Palace Theatre in downtown Greensburg, the concerts will move about 2 miles north to the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road.
Cash4Life, a Pittsburgh-based Johnny Cash tribute band, will open the series.
Concerts are planned for 5-9 p.m. every Thursday, except July 2, through Aug. 20.
Attendees will be required to preregister online, says April Kopas, CEO of the Westmoreland Cultural Trust, which manages the theater and civic center and hosts TGIS.
Although TGIS concerts are free, the trust is continuing to accept donations for the Westmoreland County Food Bank and the WCT Artist Fund, in support of its Incubator for the Arts participants, Kopas says.
“It looks like, with our first guesstimate, that we will be able to have 200 in attendance,” Kopas says, by spacing attendees out on the lawn of the civic center. Visitors will need to bring their own chairs or blankets.
The series will feature local bands.
“We thought, what better way to relaunch than with local bands, giving us a sense of community,” Kopas says. “Having live entertainment will be a wonderful diversion after all that’s been going on.”
Registration for each upcoming concert will begin on Monday of that week. The schedule includes:
• June 18 — Cash4Life (Registration begins June 15)
• June 25 – The String Theory (Registration begins June 22)
• July 9 – Andy and Natalie Gregg with Jackson Gardner (Registration begins July 6)
• July 16 – Gary Pratt (Registration begins July 13)
• July 23 – Hamilton Ave. (Registration begins July 20)
